A taba squishy is a soft, weighty squishy, often shaped like a sweet treat or a cute animal, that
sinks under your fingers and then slowly rises back into shape. The best ones are made from
silicone rather than foam, which gives them a dense, buttery squish. We make ours by hand in
the UK.
What is a taba squishy?
"Taba squishy" is the name the squishy community uses for this newer style of squishy: weighty, soft and slow to bounce back. Where classic foam squishies feel light and airy, a taba squishy has real substance in your hand. Press it and it gives with a soft, clay-like resistance, then eases back into shape at its own pace.
Most taba squishies look like food: cakes, croissants, donuts, puddings and ice creams are favourites. That's part of the charm. They look good enough to eat (please don't!) and they're made to be squeezed again and again.
What are taba squishies made of?
You'll find them in a few materials:
- Silicone: dense, soft and smooth, with a slow, satisfying rise. This is what we use: every MoodyBaboon squishy is made from food-grade silicone.
- Foam (polyurethane): light and cheap, with a quick or slow rise depending on the foam. It can tear or wear out over time.
- TPR and other soft plastics: stretchy and sticky, often with a faster snap-back.
Silicone takes longer to make and costs more, but the feel is noticeably different. We'll compare them side by side in a separate guide.
How does a taba squishy feel?
We describe ours as "soft butter, slow rise." You press in, it pushes back gently, and when you let go it slowly puffs back up. Some people squeeze them hard; others just press and watch them rise. Either way, it's the slowness that people love.
Why are taba squishies so popular?
- They're satisfying. The slow rise is calming to watch and to feel, which is why squish videos do so well on TikTok.
- They're great desk fidgets. Plenty of people keep one by the laptop for long calls, study sessions or stressful afternoons.
- They're collectable. Each design is different, and limited editions don't come back once they're gone.
- They look cute. A little strawberry cake on your desk just makes the day nicer.
Are taba squishies handmade?
Some are mass-produced in factories; ours aren't. Every MoodyBaboon squishy is hand-sculpted one at a time by artists. Because they're made by hand, no two are exactly alike: tiny bubbles, faint mould lines or slight colour shifts are normal, not faults. We think that's what makes each one yours.
Who are taba squishies for?
Ours are collectible stress relievers for teens and adults, aged 14 and over. They're not a children's toy and they're not food. They can contain small parts, so keep them away from young children and pets.
How do you look after a taba squishy?
Silicone attracts dust and fluff the moment it's out in the open, so a little care keeps yours looking fresh:
- Keep it in its dust bag when you're not using it.
- Squeeze it through the bag for a mess-free squish.
- If it gets dusty, wipe it gently with a damp cloth and let it air dry.
- Store it away from direct sunlight and heat.
Why is my squishy sticky or dusty?
That's silicone being silicone: its surface naturally picks up dust and lint. It doesn't mean anything is wrong. A gentle wipe with a damp cloth and air drying sorts it out, and keeping it in the dust bag stops it happening in the first place.
How much does a taba squishy cost?
Mass-made foam squishies can cost a few pounds. Handmade silicone squishies cost more because each one takes time to sculpt, colour and finish. Ours range from £17.99 for a donut to £32.99 for our limited-edition cakes.
How do I choose my first taba squishy?
- Want something small for your bag? Try a donut, like the blueberry cloud donut or the dreamy jewel-shard donut.
- Want the classic cake squish? The fluffy japanese cake is soft, golden and a lovely first pick.
- Love a wobble? The wobbly milk pudding jiggles at the lightest touch.
- Want something special? Our limited editions, like the vintage sweetheart cake, are made in small batches.
Are taba squishies a good gift?
Yes, for anyone aged 14 or over who loves cute things, needs a desk fidget or collects squishies. They make an easy present for friends, colleagues and teens, and they arrive in a dust bag ready to give. Browse the full collection to find one that suits them.
